However, if you&#8217;ve grown fond of these three apps, keep reading to find out how to get rid of ads using their built-in settings and without having to resort to additional software.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations if you&#8217;ve got past the installation phase without installing third-party products. To eliminate the risk of unintentionally allowing the installation of additional components that aren&#8217;t required for the clients&#8217; runtime, you can opt for the portable edition <a href=\"http:\/\/www.softpedia.com\/get\/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE\/Internet\/File-Sharing\/Portable-uTorrent.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Portable uTorrent<\/a> (made by another developer); BitTorrent and BitComet do not currently have portable counterparts). You could also <a href=\"http:\/\/news.softpedia.com\/news\/unchecky-explained-usage-video-and-download-504386.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">try Unchecky<\/a>, a tool that monitors software installations and blocks adware or warns you when you&#8217;re about to set up third-party components.<\/p>\n<h2>uTorrent and BitTorrent<\/h2>\n<p>uTorrent and BitTorrent have the same layout, so the next actions can be applied to both. Open the <strong>Options<\/strong> menu and go to <strong>Preferences<\/strong> or press <strong>Ctrl+P<\/strong>. Select <strong>Advanced<\/strong> from the list of settings on the left.<\/p>\n<p>You can either look up the following options by clicking the empty <strong>Filter<\/strong> box to type their names or scroll the list until you spot them in the <strong>Name<\/strong> column:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>bt.enable_pulse<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>distributed_share.enable<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>gui.show_notorrents_node<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>gui.show_plus_upsell<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>offers.content_offer_autoexec<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>offers.featured_content_badge_enabled<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>offers.featured_content_notifications_enabled<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>offers.featured_content_rss_enabled<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li><strong>offers.left_rail_offer_enabled<\/strong> and<\/li>\n<li><strong>offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Take a look at the <strong>Value<\/strong> column for each of these options. If they are set to <strong>True<\/strong>, click the <strong>False<\/strong> option next to <strong>Value<\/strong>: under the table of options. Do this for each option, then click <strong>Ok<\/strong> to apply changes and return to the main window.<\/p>\n<p>To further remove unused GUI elements, you can open the <strong>Options<\/strong> menu to deselect <strong>Show Toolbar<\/strong> (or press <strong>F4<\/strong>), <strong>Show Sidebar<\/strong> (or press <strong>F7<\/strong>), and <strong>Show Bundles<\/strong> (or press <strong>F8<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<h2>BitComet<\/h2>\n<p>In BitComet, some adware elements are represented by the <strong>Start Page<\/strong>, <strong>Comments<\/strong> and <strong>Snapshots tabs<\/strong>, as well as the <strong>Homepage<\/strong>, <strong>Movies<\/strong>, <strong>Music<\/strong>, <strong>Software<\/strong>, <strong>Games<\/strong> and <strong>Forums<\/strong> buttons on the toolbar.<\/p>\n<p>The toolbar buttons can be hidden from the main window from the <strong>View -&gt; Toolbar -&gt;Buttons<\/strong> menu. Simply click the <strong>Homepage<\/strong>, <strong>Movies<\/strong>, <strong>Music<\/strong>, <strong>Software<\/strong>, <strong>Games\u00a0<\/strong>, and <strong>Forums<\/strong> entries to disable this. However, you can open the menu and make the click for one item at a time. If you don&#8217;t use the toolbar at all, open the <strong>View<\/strong> menu to deselect <strong>Show Toolbar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t use the search tool either, hide it from the <strong>View -&gt; Toolbar<\/strong> menu by clicking <strong>Show Search Box<\/strong> to deselect it.<\/p>\n<p>To get rid of the <strong>Start Page<\/strong>, <strong>Comments<\/strong>, and <strong>Snapshots<\/strong> tabs, open the <strong>Tools<\/strong> menu and go to <strong>Options<\/strong> or press <strong>Ctrl+P<\/strong>. In the <strong>Options<\/strong> panel, select <strong>Appearance<\/strong> from the list on the left, click the menu next to <strong>Default detailed info pane<\/strong>, and select a tab that you actually need, such as <strong>Statistics<\/strong> or <strong>Files<\/strong>. Just make sure it&#8217;s not set to <strong>Start Page<\/strong>, <strong>Comments<\/strong> or <strong>Snapshots<\/strong>. Click <strong>Ok<\/strong> to apply changes and return to the main window.<\/p>\n<p>In the following step, right-click on any tab and click to deselect <strong>Start Page<\/strong>, <strong>Comments<\/strong>,\u00a0and <strong>Snapshots<\/strong>.
